  • Pohjolan Sanomat: June 30, 2009 - This month of June sees 60 years gone since the George Orwell book "1984&quo t; hit the public imagination. Many have written this month to remember Orwell but most media have avoided him like the plague. So let us do our little bit here to respect that writer and journalist Orwell. Why? Because his work remains important for us all today. That is why. It was also this 1984 book that finally killed Orwell. He died but 6 months later. Famous and with money but dead. He did, in one sense, become a rebel-romantic hero. But he was a rebel hero with a cause. On June 8th this year I stood outside the house, in Southwold,UK, where Orwell once lived. See the photograph above. See also that I am not a professional photographer but anyway I was there almost to the anniversary hour and day, sixty years before, when "1984&quo t; was published. I measured the dates and times rather well. I felt good at that.
