  • Appropriate technology for agriculture under rapid population growth: Appropriate technology for agriculture in developing countries must recognize forecasted rapid population growth and re-consider the relevance of mechanization in labour surplus situations. Mechanization may resulted in increased unemployment and further migration into urban areas. It needs to be ascertained that an optimal mix of agricultural labor productivity and mechanizatin lead to agricultural self-sufficien cy under rapid population growth.

  • Agrarian development in Africa: The problems of 'developm ent' techniques in agricultural production are apparent in many agriecological regions of Africa. Some approaches tend to develop small-scale, subsistence farming systems whereas others promote large-scale mechanized farms, group farms and other mechanized schemes. The latter have a high cost value out of proportion to their benefits for a developing economy in the short run, however, for combating the projected 'hunger crisis' worldwide, they may prove to be the better alternative in the long run.
